Your donation dollars at work!

Over the summer and early fall, several important campaign-funded projects were completed. The rebuild of MRG's snowmaking system is mostly finished, with a few small improvements remaining for the summer of 2020. The upgraded system can lay down snow much quicker, is more efficient to operate, and provides more consistent skiing on lower-mountain problem areas. The campaign-funded excavator and dump truck have greatly streamlined the major work to improve drainage on our trails. Also, costs for our summer mowing have been significantly reduced thanks to the mountain mower funded by the campaign.

Here are some details of what your donations have funded:

  • Extended snowmaking coverage on the Bunny up past Bunny Corner to address a longstanding problem area on this important lower artery

  • Restored coverage up to 2,300 foot elevation level (Kay's Grove above the Birdcage)

  • Added 14 new snowmaking hydrants, 12 electrical hookups, 2,500 feet of new electric wire, and 3,000 feet of new pipe

  • Added a total of 500 feet of new culverts to improve drainage on our natural snow trails: Bunny, Waterfall, Broadway, Grasshopper, and adjacent to the Birdcage

  • Installed a new bridge on the Marten

  • Cut back encroaching growth on the sides of the trails

Thank you to our generous donors for making this work possible!

Thank You From The Campaign Co-chairs

Dear Mad River Glen skiers and shareholders:

THANK YOU! Over the last three years we have worked together to raise the funds needed to sustain our beloved Cooperative ski area for another generation of skiers.

On May 3rd we closed the public phase of the capital campaign less than two weeks after our record-setting season of 136 skiing days. The final end-of-season match netted over $323,000 from 454 donors. What a way to end the ski season!

The Preserve Our Paradise Campaign currently stands unofficially at over $5.5 million in cash and pledges. This amount is unofficial because donations are still rolling in. We plan to announce the final tally at the Green and Gold shareholders’ meeting on October 5th.

This level of funding means that we will be able to support our most essential capital projects, many of which have been rolling out over the last two years. We are so grateful to the MRG community and all the volunteers who worked on the campaign.

Our biggest projects will be to renovate the Basebox and rebuild the Patrol Building during the 2020 construction season. The planning, design, and estimating is well underway. You will receive much more information about this through Green and Gold and we will also be asking shareholders for their approval of the final budget as required by our bylaws. Stay tuned!

In the meantime, we have many memories of this campaign and this great ski season as we head into the Memorial Day weekend. General Stark’s Pub opens for the summer season this Thursday, May 23, and on Friday we will be drawing the winner of the season pass raffle at the Pub. Any donor who gave $250 or more during the last match is entered to win! You don’t have to be present to win but we hope you can come for some of Mad River’s legendary hospitality.

Thank you again for your generosity. There is still much work to do, and we hope to add to the final campaign total as we go forward this summer and fall. Any gifts between now and Green and Gold will be gratefully accepted and help fund important enhancements to the crucial building projects.

Have a wonderful summer season and we look forward to seeing you back at the mountain very soon.

Campaign Tops $5.5 Million, Final Match a Big Success!

The final dollar-for-dollar match was a huge success! All $240,000 in matching funds were tapped, thanks to a groundswell of support in the final weeks as the deadline approached. The campaign has now exceeded $5.5 million in gifts and pledges, thanks to the generous support of the Mad River Glen Community. We’re still working on tallying the donations and will announce a total shortly. Although the public phase of the campaign is now complete, donations are still welcome and there are important electives for the building projects that are not currently funded.

Look for more information in the next issue of the Preserve Our Paradise Campaign Newsletter, which will be sent out the week of May 20-26.

A heartfelt you to all of our supporters, your generosity has been truly exceptional.

Deadline Extended to May 3 -$40,000 in New Matching Funds Secured!

Due to overwhelming demand, we’ve extended the deadline to double your donations by three days, to midnight on Friday, May 3, and added additional matching funds thanks to several committed donors! In addition to the $25,000 in new matching funds announced last week, we’ve secured an additional $15,000 to double all donations (up to a total of $240,000). A total of 314 generous donors have given to the campaign since this match was announced in early March!

Your donations are still urgently needed. We still need to raise an additional $182,000 to fully fund our absolute, bottom line, must-do projects. We need to address decades of deferred maintenance for the venerable Basebox, rebuild the inadequate Patrol/Ski School building, and replace the base terminal of the Birdland Lift.

We need to close the gap! Double your donation today!

Support essential projects such as the Basebox renovations! Double your donation before it’s too late!

More Matching Funds Added! Deadline is April 30.

Due to the strong response to the final matching funds, we’ve managed to secure an additional $25,000 in matching funds to double your donations (up to a total of $225,000). But don’t forget, the matching funds expire at midnight on April 30! Don’t miss this last chance to maximize the impact of your gift. In addition to a one-time gift, you can still make an annual or monthly pledge that will be paid through December 2021. Gifts & pledges can be made online at this site, or if you’d rather send a check, all gifts postmarked by April 30 will be doubled.

According to GM Matt Lillard, factoring in our latest donations and the resulting matching funds, we’re still $200,000 short of funding our absolute minimum must-do task list. This includes the Basebox renovations, rebuilding the Patrol Building, and a new base terminal for the Birdland lift. We’re not talking bells and whistles, we’re talking the simple, essential requirements to carry our infrastructure through the next few decades. (Fully funding all the highly desirable project options will take an additional $450,000.)

Let’s close the gap and make sure we’re able to execute these projects properly. Double your donation through April 30!

Take a leap of faith… help us close that $200,000 gap!
